Type Locality and Naming

It is also known as Gres de Tibaradine. Its Type Locality is Tibaradine, while the Type Section is in W-flank of Tibaradine anticline (Wendt et al., 2008).

Synonym: Grès de Tibaradine Fm.

Lithology and Thickness

The Tibaradine Fm is dominated by cross-bedded sandstones with thin shale and siltstone intercalations. The sandstones exhibit a distinct cyclicity consisting of meter thick shallowing-upward units. Frequent ball-and-pillow and dewatering structures (convolute bedding) indicate a very rapid sedimentation. Thicknesses are highest in the central Ahnet (210 m at the type locality, 190 m at Tirechchoumine) and decrease towards the west (in the Reganne Basin) (Wendt et al., 2008; Perron et al., 2018).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Argiles de Teguentour Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Lower Tirechoumine Fm.

Regional extent

SW Algeria. 75,000 Km2. Present in the Reganne, Ahnet, and Muydir Basins.
